Assistant Director of Nursing 

For over 35 years, Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services has been providing compassionate and dependable medical and non-medical home health care services throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Through our quality care, we help our clients with the medical, physical, and emotional strain that comes when home health care is needed the most. Preferred is currently hiring an assistant director of nursing for our Bensalem, Pennsylvania office. 

Duties of Position 

  1. Assists with the planning, coordination, leading, controlling, and evaluating of home care services provided to the clients of the Agency 
  2. Assists the director of nursing with the coordination and management of home care clinical services 
  3. Acts as a liaison with the medical community, clients, and office personnel 

Responsibilities of Position 

  1. Provides supervision of nurses and home health aides to ensure quality of services within the plan of care 
  2. Reviews the clinical content, diagnoses, medical history, medications, and other statuses from client records 
  3. Appraises staff performance during their probationary period and annually with the director of nursing, and provides the teaching and counseling necessary to enhance the delivery of services and the professional development of nursing and health aide staff 
  4. Identifies and evaluates client needs and appropriateness of home care by reviewing the initial intake screening form before assignment of direct care staff 
  5. Assists with the orientation of new professional staff to familiarize them with policies and procedures 
  6. Conducts client visits in the appropriate setting as needed 
  7. Initiates in-home supervisory visits of clinical staff as needed 
  8. Maintains confidentiality of medical records, personnel records, etc., within the scope of their position 
  9. Participates in any required functions in the absence or request of the director of nursing 
  10. Performs Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement evaluations of the branch clinical operations in conjunction with the director of nursing to improve clinical performance indicators 
  11. Monitors emergency preparedness measures to ensure safety of internal, external, and client operations in the event of a natural or man-made disaster 
  12. Works closely with the electronic medical record (EMR) to ensure client electronic charts are maintained, updated, and remain in compliance with company standards 
  13. Understands details around the knowledge of clinical workflow as it pertains to the use of the EMR 
  14. Participates in formal and informal problem-solving processes to meet the EMR computer education needs and established outcomes for users 
  15. Provides trainer sessions for peers and field staff to expand training team expertise 
  16. Performs other duties as assigned in a professional matter 

Job Conditions 

  1. Position is stressful in terms of meeting deadlines in a dynamic clinical operations environment 
  2. On occasion, may be required to bend, stoop, reach, and move clients, as well as lift and carry more than 50 pounds 
  3. The ability to utilize a PC, calculator, multi-line telephone, and other office equipment 
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as public speaking before large and small groups 
  5. Travel is required 


  1. Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in the state and have worked as an RN for at least 3 years 
  2. A minimum of 1 year of home health care or equivalent experience is required 
  3.  Knowledge of, and experience in, trach, vent, g-tube, and pediatric care 
  4. Ability to demonstrate self-confidence and positive attitude toward self and others; maintains commitment and enthusiasm to goal achievement 
  5. Ability to identify and evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses
