Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services (PHHC), Eatontown, with offices in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, has announced the winner of its Student Nursing Scholarship, a $500 award given twice a year for current student nurses living or going to school in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Delaware.
The winner is Hudson County Community College student Rina Renea Derricott, Jersey City, who is seeking to become an LPN. Derricott started her career with a B.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University in fashion merchandising, and had extensive training working at luxury, wear-to-work, and discount retailers. With the sad news about COVID-19, its devastating effects and growing deaths, however, Derricott did not hesitate to pursue a career in health care.
Derricott said, “I come from a long line of family devoted to the health care industry. I am the daughter of an ER Registered Nurse who spent more than 23 years in practice and siblings whose health care careers span more than 15 years. Listening to their stories, being amazed by their heroic acts, I understand I cannot just live my life for me. I am a part of a whole, a small part of a large community, and I must do my part.”
